Dear chuck,
I am so glad and grateful that you have invited me to your party.But I am so sorry that I can't attend.Because my friend Tom has been ill.He can't move by himself at all and stay on bed all night.It seems that he got serious fever.So I must take him to the hospital and I can't attend your party tonight.
Happy birthday to you my dear friend.I’m so sorry that I can't accompany with you in this special day.I hope you could understand me and enjoy the party.

I am writing to tell you that I won’t be able to be at your party tonight because I need to take my friend Jimmy to the hospital. He is my roommate and started to cough this morning. We didn’t give it much attention at first. But around eleven he started to cough up blood and we realised that it was serious. His family is on holiday in Chicago, and he doesn’t know a lot of people around here; so I must take him to the hospital. I am really sorry that I have to go back on my words; I know that I promised you to be at the party. But you would understand that this is an emergency, right?
I apologise once again and hope that all of you have a good time.
