Container theory is a part of the metaphysics in philosophy.In a sense,it is similar to relativity theory in physics,but it is different in the way that it talks about how everything exist.
Container theory describes a space as a background of which objects and things exist,rest,move,and interact.It proposes that this space will continue to exist,even if there is nothing in it.
Famous scientist Issac Newton is in favour of container theory because he believed in absolute values and definitions.Oppose to this is the relational theory,which describes the space as "where things exist".Then if nothing exist in it,there won't be a space.
The best example of container theory will be planet Earth.Earth has existed for about 4 billion years.2.1 billions years ago,there was no organism living on Earth.However,Earth existed as it is.Then life began to form.
In contrary,the relational theory objects by saying that Earth did exist for 1.9 billion years without a life,but it is building the environment to sustain life.It is a cause of the effect of organisms appearing.Thus,the time used can be counted as part of the revolution and Earth did exist because organisms exist.
